Oh what great day in our lives! When we woke up and looked outside we had a clear view of Mount Kailash. Whether you believe it or not you will definitely chant: “OM NAMA SHIVAYAH! OM NAMA SHIVAYAH! OM NAMA SHIVAYAH!”. And that is coming from your mind and heart. How can we be not thrilled that Mount Kailash is so reachable and so close? Simply unbelievable! Even today sometime I think those were only my daydreams.
We had hot breakfast and our lunch was packed and kept in the bag with the porter. For more than an hour we had to trek as the horse was not able to trek through the rubble filled trekking route from the lodge. In the morning it was really strenuous. But again we all managed well. Our horseman and porter and crews were there with us for help. Of course the walking stick was also very useful and helpful at this time. This was the hardest day as we trekked for about eight hours. But we thoroughly enjoyed each and every moment of it. Even on the horse you may find it difficult to breath sometimes but the next moment you would definitely forget those difficulties with closer divine view of Mount Kailash, the abode of Lord Sri Mahadeva.
What were all the things went through in my mind is unexplainable. The same could have been the case with all other Yathris as well. Let me simply put it in this way that it was a dream come true. It was the fulfillment of my dream. Believe it or not we had lunch in the open space very close to Mount Kailash. It was the grace of Lord Sri Mahadeva. No doubt about it.
Trekking was very hard through very narrow trekking path. It was most of the time very steep uphill climb. We have trekked up more than two thousand feet to a new height of twenty two thousand feet around Mount Kailash. We saw some trekkers coming back our way and we were told it was not that they were coming back after circumambulation but Buddhist Pilgrims performing Parikram. We do Parikram on clock wise and Buddhist do Parikram on anti clock wise.
By around six o’clock in the evening we reached Zuthulphuk Gompa. Other than in the morning of that day all other times of the day we were on the horse. No one dared to test their stamina trekking at that height. There were many people trekking in this area and some of them look like as if they are walking in plain land. I salute them. Also all our crews were trekking all the three days. They did never hire a horse. As matter of fact the last day Badri and one of his associates carried one of our lady members as she was unable to mount on the horse. I salute to their stamina as well.
We stayed at a lodge overnight. As usual we had hot dinner cooked by our crews served in our rooms. Next day morning was far more exciting. Please see the pictures taken from our lodge overnight.
Kailash, believed to be the abode of Lord Sri Mahadeva, just so close and easily accessible. This was truly a blissful day of my life. I am still trying to reconcile that it was real. We did stay so close to Mount Kailash. Whether you believe in Lord Maheswara or not whether you believe Kailash is the abode of Lord Sri Mahadeva or not it is undoubtedly true that it is a place worth visiting if that is practically possible. It is worth any effort and any risk. And we have not yet completed our Parikram.
